In Depth Look: Sea Hunt BX25FS

Sea Hunt BX25FS

First Impressions

Sea Hunt has made a name for itself by building quality boats at affordable price, and the BX25FS fits that reputation perfectly. It’s a bay boat that leans more into the fishing side of its DNA, with a shallow draft, wide open decks, and all the essentials an angler needs for a full day on the water.

That said, it’s not just a stripped-down fishing machine. The BX25FS still brings in a few family-friendly touches like extra seating and comfort features, which makes it a great option for boaters who want to fish hard in the morning and hit the sandbar in the afternoon.

It’s a smartly designed boat that gives you the best of both worlds, fishing function without forgetting the fun.

Layout

The Sea Hunt BX25FS is clearly designed with fishability in mind. With a spacious forward casting deck and a generously sized rear casting platform, there’s plenty of room for two or even three anglers to spread out and work the water without getting tangled up. Whether you’re casting into mangroves, skipping under docks, or working a shoreline, this layout keeps everyone out of each other’s way.

Seating

Along the rear deck, Sea Hunt includes three individual flip-up seats. This is where most passengers will likely ride, and it’s a nice setup for a couple of reasons. First, these are dedicated seats—not built over livewells or storage compartments—so you’re not asking someone to get up every time you need bait. And second, because they aren’t doing double duty, they’re a lot more comfortable for longer rides.

At the helm, the standard bait tank leaning post isn’t just functional, it’s outfitted with two true captain’s chairs. These provide excellent comfort, especially compared to the more basic bench-style leaning posts you’ll see on other bay boats. Whether you’re driving or keeping an eye on the lines, it’s a sturdy and supportive place to be.

Bow Seating

Up front, you’ll find a forward console seat, a great spot for passengers who aren’t fishing but still want to be part of the action. The bow casting platform itself is roomy and can be converted into a large sunpad or two individual loungers with the included cushions and backrests. That said, sitting up here while the boat’s running at speed isn’t something we’d recommend unless it’s glassy calm. Bay boats tend to have short sides, and that means you’re pretty exposed in this spot. Thankfully, Sea Hunt adds a bow rail an each side for safety, which is more than some competitors offer.

But once you’re anchored or drifting, that front deck turns into a great space for relaxing. It’s ideal for sunbathing, taking in the view, or just kicking back after the rods are stowed.

Hardtop & Winshield

The standard powder-coated T-top includes a mister system and a three-sided windshield enclosure, making hot days and surprise showers a lot more manageable. While there’s always that debate about whether a hardtop takes away from casting space, the benefits far outweigh the tradeoffs, especially if you’re out with the family or running back in less-than-perfect weather. The windshield alone is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to stay dry on a rainy run home.on

Fishability and Storage

Livewells

Sea Hunt didn’t cut corners when it came to the BX25FS’s fishing setup starting with the standard bait tank leaning post. Instead of a basic aluminum post with a cooler underneath, you get a full aquarium-style livewell built right in. It’s not only functional, it’s practical allowing you to check on your bait at a glance and access it without any awkward reaching or lid lifting.

Need more capacity? You’ve got it. A second 20-gallon livewell is located aft, between two dedicated 5-gallon bucket storage compartments. This setup is smart, you can keep a cast net in one of the buckets, toss it, and drop your bait into the nearby livewell without ever leaving the back deck. Since none of these are tucked under a seat or bench, everything’s easy to reach and use in the heat of the moment.

Rod Storage

With 4 rod holders on the hardtop and 4 more at the back of the leaning post, the BX25FS covers your standard rod storage needs right out of the gate. But Sea Hunt didn’t stop there. At the bow, port and starboard rod lockers with built-in racks can each hold four additional rods, giving you space for eight more setups tucked out of the way but close at hand.

Whether you’re fishing solo, with a crew, or just like to be over-prepared, you’ve got plenty of rod storage on this rig.

Tackle and Gear Access

Storage space overall is balanced, with one centerline 250-quart bow compartment providing dry storage or cooler use depending on your needs. If you do fill both rod lockers with rods, this will be your main stowaway zone, but it’s a big one and should hold what most anglers need for a full day.

A thoughtful bonus? The tackle storage built into the bow step. This is perfect for stashing quick-access gear like leader spools, extra hooks, or your go-to lures, saving you from digging around in bags or bins while you’re trying to stay in the bite.

Technology and Electronics

One of the best things about the Sea Hunt BX25FS is how much tech comes standard right out of the gate. It’s refreshing to know exactly what’s included when you’re pricing out the boat—no guesswork, no basic must-have electronics mysteriously showing up as expensive add-ons.

Standard Helm Setup

Since this model comes with the Yamaha 300hp outboard, you also get Yamaha electric steering standard, which delivers smooth and responsive handling. That’s paired with Bennett trim tabs to help you fine-tune your ride, although it’s a bit of a letdown that there’s no option (yet) to upgrade to something like the Seakeeper Ride system. Hopefully that’s something Sea Hunt considers in the future.

Still, you’re not exactly left wanting. The Yamaha CL5 touchscreen display replaces old analog gauges and gives you real-time, easy-to-read engine data right at the helm—one of those quality-of-life upgrades you’ll never want to go without again.

Displays, Audio, and More

At the heart of the electronics package is a 12″ Garmin GPSMAP 1243xsv with VHF radio, which checks off both the navigation and depth-finding boxes for most boaters. This is also one of the best displays to go with on the market so its great to see this coming standard on the boats. But if you feel inclined to upgrade, there is room for another display in the dash as well.

On the audio side, Sea Hunt includes a JL Audio waterproof stereo with Bluetooth and a full set of speakers. It’s loud enough to handle a full day on the water, whether you’re running to the next spot or just hanging at the sandbar—and of course, you can always add more speakers if you’re the type who likes to crank it up.

Extra Touches

The BX25FS also comes standard with a trolling motor plug and wiring harness, so you’re ready to go if you want to mount one down the line. And for a bit of flair (and function), underwater LED lights are also included, perfect for nighttime rides or just lighting things up at the dock.

One Thing Missing…

The only major omission? A SeaStar 6″ hydraulic jack plate doesn’t come standard. To be fair, most bay boats don’t include it by default either—but given the shallow-water design and versatility of the BX25FS, it feels like a natural fit that should be included. You can (and probably should) add it, especially if you plan to run skinny water on the regular.

Customizations & Options

With so many standard features packed into the Sea Hunt BX25FS, the factory upgrade list is surprisingly short, but that’s not a bad thing. Instead of forcing you to nickel-and-dime your way to a complete setup, Sea Hunt delivers a boat that’s already turnkey. The few options that are available are really about personalizing the boat to suit your style and priorities.

Performance Tweaks

The standard power is a Yamaha 300HP, which is plenty for most people, but if you’re looking for a little more punch out of the hole or just want a touch more top-end speed, you can bump that up to a Yamaha 350HP. It’s a worthwhile option if you’re regularly running long distances or hauling a full crew and gear.

Color & Upholstery Choices

Sea Hunt offers a range of hull color options, and for those who like a cohesive look, you can match the underside of the hardtop to your hull color as well. Interior upholstery comes standard in white, but you can switch it up with tan or gray upholstery if that better fits your vibe.

Leaning Post Swap

By default, the BX25FS comes with a baitwell leaning post which we think is a great choice and one of the more functional leaning posts in its class. But if you’re planning more family time than fishing missions, you can swap it out for a standard aluminum leaning post and add a cooler slide with a custom Sea Hunt cooler. That said, if you’re only occasionally using the livewell, you might just keep the baitwell post and use the tank as your cooler, it works just as well and saves the hassle.

Fishing-Focused Add-ons

If you’re the type that needs bait kept alive all day, you can upgrade the standard livewell to a recirculating setup, helping your baitfish stay healthy even in warm conditions. You can also add a bow casting chair to make those long days on the water a little more comfortable, especially if you’re soaking baits or pitching around docks.

Comfort & Convenience

Planning long days with the crew? Consider adding the porta-potti to the console head area. It’s a practical addition for families or anyone who doesn’t want to head back in mid-trip.

Final Thoughts

The Sea Hunt BX25FS is everything you need in a bay boat that doesnt cost an arm and a leg. It’s set up to fish hard, with smart features like dual livewells, open casting decks, and a functional layout that works just as well on shallow flats as it does in inshore waters. But what makes it stand out is how it blends that fishing-first mindset with family-friendly comfort and standard features most brands would upcharge you for.

Whether you’re working a shoreline with lures, drifting a grass flat, or cruising out for a day with the kids, the BX25FS gives you the flexibility to do it all without feeling like you’re compromising. It’s well-built, thoughtfully equipped, and clearly designed by people who understand how real boaters use their boats.

If you’re looking for a bay boat that delivers serious capability, smart value, and a touch of refinement, the BX25FS is a tough boat to beat.
